Jo has been teaching for 16 Years in the Bedford area, 9 of these in a Senior Leadership role. In 2012 she joined the team as a founder member of a new build school, Great Denham Primary, as a Deputy Head Teacher.
Jo has led the development of a project based curriculum at Great Denham, recently described by Ofsted as ‘… highly engaging’ (Dec 2017), through to REAL© Projects as well as the innovative use of technology within the curriculum. Jo left Great Denham in December 2017 to pursue her interest in supporting schools with their curriculum design.
As a Specialist Leader of Education (SLE) Jo is able to support whole-school curriculum design through the development of pedagogical approaches such as Immersive Learning, Challenged Based Learning, Flipped Learning, the use of Critique and the delivery of REAL© Projects- keeping the passion for teaching and learning robust, relevant and alive for both teachers and children.
Recognising the opportunity to embrace learning with technology, Jo gained Apple Teacher status, leading the school to become a Regional Training Centre for Apple Education. Recent projects include the implementation of a successful ongoing 1-1 ipad scheme, which sees the school now with over 250 children having their own device; the introduction of pupil Digital Leaders to support teaching and learning and a Digital Leader Academy, engaging cross county collaboration between children and staff.
Jo is able to provide curriculum design support as well as supporting schools in the development of REAL© Projects. She can also provide support to schools wishing to develop their use of mobile technology.
Life is not a dress rehearsal. Jo firmly believes that, as an educator, we have the unique opportunity to create relevant and memorable learning, which will engage and prepare children for the future. Immersing children in authentic learning is at the heart of Jo’s philosophy and practice.
