Pensans Community Primary School is situated in the beautiful coastal town of Penzance which is overlooked by the 12th Century castle on St Micheal’s Mount.
The school is sited on the outskirts of the town and serves an area of high deprivation, which many would not associate with this holiday destination.
Pensans has a one and a half form entry with provision from 2 years to 11 years. It has extensive grounds including woodland and purpose built play spaces which enhance all aspects of learning.
In March 2014 Ofsted recognised the impact that deprivation had on children’s engagement with learning, which initiated a search for a pedagogy that would transform their educational experience at Pensans. This pedagogy was found with EOS and then EdTransform.
At Pensans all children are recognised and valued as individuals with unlimited potential. For our children to realise their potential we run an inspiring and creative curriculum that follows the REAL© Projects pedagogy. Our children are intrinsically motivated by real world outcomes. We passionately believe that children need to be equipped with 21st century skills and an understanding of how to be a useful and proactive member of their community.
REAL© Projects create a safe environment so that children are inspired to produce beautiful outcomes using multiple drafts and critique. The environments provoke passion for learning and encourage children to make choices about where they work best.
From the broad and challenging essential questions through to the authentic outcomes children are supported by experts to exceed their own, and others, expectations.
We have worked closely with EdTransform to develop our whole school vision and we continue to move forward with joy and determination to make a difference to our children’s futures.
